ASA 114: Learn to Sail a Catamaran

Take ASA 114 as part of either our Series 1 (ASA 101/103/104/114) or Series 2 (ASA 106/114) course tracks. This advanced American Sailing certification is exclusively available to students sailing aboard a catamaran with our Bahamas sailing school.

During this hands-on American Sailing course, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to skipper a 30–45 foot auxiliary-powered cruising catamaran on a multi-day liveaboard adventure in inland or coastal waters—even in moderate to heavy winds up to 30 knots.

We’ll dive deep into catamaran structure, key components and systems, performance under sail and power, seamanship, safety protocols, heavy weather handling, and emergency response. It’s an exciting, immersive experience designed to take your sailing ability to the next level—right in the heart of Caribbean sailing paradise.

ASA 111: Sailing Refresher - Alumni Course with Discount

Feeling a little rusty on a few sailing skills? Add ASA 111 to your Series 2 advanced sailing course or include it in your customized itinerary for a personalized skills boost! This flexible American Sailing course can be taken as many times as you’d like and is tailored to target the exact sailing skills you want to sharpen.

Whether it’s docking, sail trim, navigation, or anything in between, the certified ASA instructors at our Bahamas sailing school will work one-on-one with you to design a written, personalized curriculum—so you can build confidently on what you already know and get back on the water feeling stronger than ever.

ASA 106: Advanced Coastal Cruising

Take your skills off shore by taking ASA 106, an American Sailing course offered as part of our Series 2 advanced sailing courses. It’s a fun challenge even for seasoned sailors. Upon completion, you’ll be certified to skipper and crew a 30–50 foot sailing vessel in coastal and inland waters, in any conditions—from light breezes to demanding offshore environments. It’s your ticket to sailing farther, bolder, and with total confidence.

ASA 104: Learn to Sail a Monohull

If you’ve already earned your ASA 101 and ASA 103 certifications, you can jump straight into ASA 104 during your Learn To Sail vacation in the Bahamas! This course is a perfect match for our monohull sailing adventures, though it’s also available aboard catamaran sailboats.

In ASA 104, you’ll learn how to skipper a 30 to 45-foot, sloop-rigged, auxiliary-powered keelboat during a multi-day Bahamas sailing cruise. You’ll gain real-world experience and confidence in moderate to heavy winds (up to 30 knots) and sea conditions. Most students pair ASA 104 with ASA 114 so they can earn both certifications in one unforgettable week and receive their international sailing license!

ASA 103: Basic Coastal Cruising

Take ASA 103 as part of any Go Sail Bahamas Series 1 American Sailing vacation, offered alongside ASA 101 and ASA 104! Already completed ASA 101? No problem—you can opt to take just ASA 103, or pair it with ASA 104 to keep leveling up during your Bahamas Learn to Sail vacation.

In ASA 103, you’ll develop the skills to skipper a 25 to 35-foot sloop-rigged, auxiliary-powered keelboat (inboard or outboard engine) by day in moderate conditions up to 20 knots. This hands-on course covers essential cruising knowledge, including sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, engine operation, intermediate sail trim, rules of the road, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather interpretation, safety, and seamanship.

ASA 101: Learn to Sail Basics

If you’re just getting started on your sailing journey and want to focus on the basics, you can choose to take only ASA 101 during your Learn to Sail vacation. Then, add on more courses when you’re ready!

In this foundational course, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to skipper a 20′–27′ sloop-rigged keelboat by day in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. You’ll learn essential sailing knowledge including sailing terminology, parts and functions of the boat, helm commands, sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship, safety, and basic navigation rules to help avoid hazards and collisions. There’s no better place to learn than with our Bahamas sailing school. ASA 101 is your first step toward a lifetime of adventure under sail!
